This was Mrs. Bradley's of Warren VT. 1700 people live there today so I wonder what to population was in 1880. The 'before' pictures are posted here, about a month ago. The body is zinc covered and the box is 5/8 inch wood. The metal was so rusted it had to be painted. The latches have the patent date, July 73. The slats are hard wood. The lock is solid brass. And the best .....I once bought a bunch of about 15 keys on eBay and ..yes, one fit this lock! WOW, like hitting the lottery. Another fun project.

Somebody who was lucky on eBay!! They may sue you for slander. Just joking as the few times I've used it, I had good experiences. You did a beautiful job. Yeah, when zinc starts to go, there isn't much you can do but paint. I imagine even T-Mon will even forgive you. lol. I'll have to go back & look at the "before" pics now.

Oh, the zinc is still good? It's the other metal that gave up the ghost? Just went back to orig. poste. I'm more impressed with your work.

You obviously don't know me well or follow my comments! You've been around long enough to be a better judge of character than that! If not, you need to work on it!

Yes, but you know trunks and wood. I don't denied the rest. :-)

Beautiful work, once again. I've had to paint metal a few times, too. Many times that's about the only choice to truly preserve it.

Very nice- love the slats and steel on this one.Always nice to find the damn key.
      Huge difference from before.

Thanks myoldkentucyhome and drill, I appreciate the comments. I am always reluctant to paint the metal. But you are right, it is the best way to go in certain situations. I figure if it helps to give a new life and use to the trunk it's best.

Excellent job!! Absolutely love it!! I recently had to paint a trunk due to the metal being to far gone in places. Mine did not come out looking nearly as good as this one.

Very nice looking trunk -- came out GREAT! The metal was originally painted anyway so you have just brought it back to life. My zinc trunk is quite similar to this one, with different latches. I used fine steel wool to shine up the zinc body. That and a lemon... believe it or not... and the sheen came out very nicely. Great work!
