Handmade uckers board made during Operational deployment Persian gulf in response to 9/11.
Made in marine ply. Measuring 70cm square.
    Pieces turned from 20mm casings.
Makes a hell of a racket when played. (Ancient navy game )
    Great for morale.
The back of the board was signed by all the captains and admirals that visited our ship during the deployment.
Occasionally I get old shipmates round and we play the hell out of it over many hours.

With the prevalence go digital personal communications these days,
We used to play during lunchtimes to get our younger sailors hooked.
      Of which they always did.
Team work, espirit de corp and tradition are important to maintain a well disciplined crew.

It is also a time to refresh oneself . My Son was in Desert Storm in Army and Iraq 3 times . You were creative to make this I guess it could be called a form of trench art ? My Dad was Navy but found out he got sea sick :-(

Amen to that Cpomedx !! Were you a medic ? I was a paramedic and am a RN . I assume you might have been a medic by your user name :-)
    9. Cpomedx Cpomedx, 10 years ago
      Affirmative.
Chief petty officer, medical, X-ray tech specialization.
When we are at sea we are just "the medic"
      :)

Oh how did I guess :-) I was a nam nurse but worked mostly with Psychiatric patients and drug abuse of heroin and LSD :-( It was so easy to get there and many of our beloved vets from Nam fell victim to it's availability . I do believe it was start of the drug problem in US .

You are the first person in a number of years that has understood my "name"
      BZ.
Psych , that's one job has to be done by dedicated passionate professionals.
Very difficult. I couldn't do it.
I did my time , like everyone, got out at the time was good for me.
Worked offshore oil and gas as the medic and now,...........
I teach offshore oil and gas safety.
I miss going to sea though.
(" the time has come the walrus said, to think of many things" )
Life is good. Busy with my life , but always time to appreciate treasures found. :)
