This is what I believe is a bacon server? The dish that has the hallmark on it is underneath the more ornate tray sitting in the top of the dish when you open it up. I don't know anything about it! I can't find any information on the hallmark to say where it would be from or if it is actually silver or not. Thoughts?

Looks to be silver plate-- "EP" markings.

You don't mention size, but the form looks to be a butter dish to me.

Scottvez- it is actually quite large. 18 inches long and 11 inches high. It looks as if it was intended to keep something warm.

      A bun or muffin warmer?

Size would rule out my thoughts-- vetraio may have it!

If it has a double insert, the one with the holes and then one beneath it without holes, then it is a meat server. The base or rounded part could be filled with hot water to keep the meat warm. The juices and fats from the meat would flow through the holes and slits in the top tray and be held in the tray beneath. I have one of these. Polished up, they are absolutely beautiful. Serve any kind of meat in it on a buffet to wow your guests. : )
