This is such an interesting and well designed piece by Soichiro Sasakura, one of Sasaki's main designers in the late 20th century.
I think this piece dates as recently as the 1990s but I am not definite about that, because as for most Japanese glass I struggle to find accurate information about Sasaki production.
Sasakura had a real passion for simple shapes but liked to tweak them by adding surface texture.
This bud vase is simply shaped like a tooth, but the glass is a really unusual matte khaki colour, with the addition of wrinkles and folds.
To hold it is like holding a large piece of sea glass or natural crystal - it is extremely organic and appealing.
I can't capture it's beauty in the photos.
It has been mould blown and slightly ground on the base.
Sticker reads "SASAKI Designed by Soichiro Sasakura Japan".
Height 14cm (5.5in)
I bet it feels wonderful. From the pictures it looks like a fish to me
Hey you're right!
Sing it..."fish heads, fish heads, roly poly fish heads, fish head, fish heads, eat them up yum!"
beautiful!!
Glass from the dark side!
Thank you Sean!
Thanks also Ken!
William what's not to like about the dark side at times! Thanks.
it feels dark, deep, hungry, and it's been here longer than we humans have been.
Ha! You are right!
Very primal....
Thanks Ho2
Is there a sci-fi category for glass? This is one piece I just want to pick up and hold, it is calling out to me!
the call of the dark side!!!
Lives are lived on the dark side too - why not glass!
Thanks guys!
Lots of love from everyone for this!
Thanks - and may the dark force be with you.
