I've been watching this pendant for the last three days. Nobody put a bid in so I decided at the last minute to bite the bullet and go for it.
I really like it, there seems to be a bit of ware to the enamel and looks well warn at the back. It's not marked, but the seller says that it has tested silver.
The seller says it's in the style of Bernard Instone? I'm not sure. Could the green glass/stone, in the middle be synthetic spinel, Green Tourmaline or glass? The size is approx 25 x 20mm. Any comments would be very much appreciated

Hey, Instone! look at this one:

      http://www.pinterest.com/pin/329325791475285837/

Quite same decoration, he used synthetic stones too!

Another thing, I think the "stone" was inversed at some period as now it shows its back!
This can be explained by the fact the flat side which is now at the back is rather scuffed/worn; so, somebody found it was more economical to turn it rather to have a new replacement...
    7. Peasejean55 Peasejean55, 10 years ago
I did see the photo, it does look very similar work. It's interesting that you say the stone has been turned back to front. It does look pretty battered, but to me it has charm. I was stunned nobody else put a bid on it. The seller is sending it from South Africa.

I've looked at the ring on website, it's a shame it didn't show the back, to me the back of the pendant is the same has the front of the ring. Clever you. Thank you

Hi Kyra, I wonder if I can pick your Brains. I've put some new photos of the Bernard Instone pendant, I wonder you can have a look and give me your opinion. Many thanks

Jean, I'm not at all an Instone specialist :-)
Can't say anything new about it, except it is very well made, and beautiful!
Jewels1900 and BelleEpoque are the ones who helped me a lot on This era makers!
    14. Peasejean55 Peasejean55, 10 years ago
I was thinking of changing the stone back, it has a few scuffs marks, would they polish out?
    15. kyratango kyratango, 10 years ago
Personnaly, I would keep it with it's original "stone" as the color was choosen by the artist and match the enamel.
A cautious jeweller could unmount it and have it polished by a specialist. You risk nothing to only ask ( you said in your area they are not interested in antique jewellery...)
Try to ask jewels1900 for advice too!
    16. Peasejean55 Peasejean55, 10 years ago
I wouldn't change the stone,I completely agree. Many thanks Kyra.

    19. Jewels1900 Jewels1900, 10 years ago
Yes Jean. This one is Instone. I've seen this type of combo many times before. I'd have the stone (& it's likely to be a stone rather than glass) lightly buffed & put back the right way round.
    20. Peasejean55 Peasejean55, 10 years ago
Many thanks Jewel1900, I totally agree with you on the stone. I was thinking would it also be worth having the enamelling repaired, and putting it back to it former glory.
    21. Jewels1900 Jewels1900, 10 years ago
No worries. I'm always inclined to think that a sympathetic restoration is worth the effort. It gives a tired jewel a new lease of life.
    22. Peasejean55 Peasejean55, 10 years ago
Many thanks Jewels1900. So restoration is what it will be.

I decided to leave the stone, the jeweller who I talked to, seem to think it might do more harm then good.
I spruced the place up where the enamel was missing with cold enamel. I think it does look better.

Looking closely at the recent photo on my computer its not a perfect job, I'll put it down to experience.

After seeing a ring of the same designed on CW I asked a friend if he could change the stone to the correct side. This is the end result, I'm pleased because the stone is in better condition than I expected.
