Can anyone help me identify this Tiffany & Co. piece? And to date it?
These are the hallmarks:
TIFFANY & CO
MAKERS
STERLING SILVER
35383 (I Think?)
I seem to remember reading somewhere that this piece was for feeding babies, or for feeding a sick or elderly person.
It works great as pipe rest, but I'm almost certain that was not its original purpose.
If anyone can help with any information, that would be great!
Could the number be 25382?? - There was one on worthpoint identified as a "spoon rest"
It's possible that the number is actually 25382! Hard to read!
I really doubt that it's a spoon rest. Only a teaspoon DOES NOT tip it over. Any spoon larger than a teaspoon tips it over.
I could definitely see it being used to feed a baby, or feed a sick person. Perhaps even to administer liquid medicine to a sick person.
Makes a lovely pipe rest, although I know it wasn't made for that purpose!
I just found the answer using google.
It is a "Pap Boat" or a "Pap Boat Feeder" and it was used to feed babies and invalids.
I guess you would put food in the dish end, and then tip the open spout end into the mouth.
