    Hi,

Sorry about the pics it's the best I could do. The first picture, not very clear but that's from the original ad.

I'm very much a magpie collector. I buy what I like the look of not for it's value. And trust me none are great pieces but I enjoy, cleaning them up and ugh scraping out thirty year old axel grease from inside an oiler. Yes I had that pleasure last week. Got a fix for that as well. But another time.

I happened to get chance of an old provable Morris minor oil can. The original owner was selling it so don't get much better. No labels or anything but I liked it. Well it was battered brused dented the click sides didn't work and there was the usual old oil sitting at the bottom wel after shifting the oil. (Other fix). I saw quite a bit of surface rust inside so because it is so battered I use it as a tester. Well did. And poured some hydrochloric acid in to nuke the rust works wonders so long as you neutralise is. Well I did the usual bicarbonate of soda nice bit of fizz by then washed it out. But I'd left some bicarb behind I think there was also some oil still in there. So I thought I know it'll finish the rust of and sort out the clumping bicarb. Vinegar. Yes again some fizz. Not much as there wasn't much in. So I screwed the pin cap on and started to screw the main cap and thought, jokingly I should have added more bicarb perhaps it would un dent it. Finished screwing the top on and gave it a good hard shake the it suddenly went "pop" and again I thought "oh dear me" and started undoing the pin screw. It took ten minutes for the fizzing to stop. But low and behold no major dents and no having to hammer. Even the pop side work now. It's a s good as you'd expect a forty to fity year old can to be.

Sorry for the long info I tend to get carried away. But I hope the idea helps if not it's only my time wasted.

    Thanks for reading it anyway.

I know it's not rocket science but I didn't expect it to work so well!

Brilliant, if slightly insane idea! What a cool little item.

Hi Gracay2004. Yes I like it and it's provenance. So hard to get with these things. Which bit was the insane part the acid or the home made bomb :)

FBI will flip when they read this bit. Hi FBI man or woman :P

I know it was dangerous but because it was so flattened I did know it would give me some time to "defuse it" but I was surprised that it didn't collapse back afterwards.

If you think this was bad you should try removing grease for an oiler solid rancid grease at that. Yuk.

I even ended up part copper plating this by accident when trying to remove the oxidisation and grime.

Really weird watching something in your hand turning copper. With electricity fine. But not the way it happens with me
