Found it in a shed behind the house. It looks like some sort of bottle capper. Base may be wood or leather.

Sounds good to me.
Looking closer, I don't think so.
It's a pig snouter to keep pigs or hogs from rooting , I've had a few. Not fun for the pigs!
I always love these posts. Being an old country boy I have owned a few pigs and known a few more. You don't need a snouter you need to let them root until they are satisfied. Clipping their snout can be worse than leaving it alone. Although pulling teeth helps with some.
A muzzle might be good if you don't want them eating the truffles. Not being mush of a farm boy, how does a pig snouter operate? I've got a strong stomach, at least after I've been up awhile.
Blunder it cut of part of his nose so he couldn't dig with it !! Torture
Time for me to leave this one alone and let someone else answer.

time to go TU ....nighty night ..lol.
I think I have the gist of this thing! Now who pays for the 2 Corona's I just tossed up? Now, to my favourite antagonist! Roy, that was great! Luv'd it. I've helped raise horses, cows, donkeys & goats, but never pigs. Sounds Like I'm lucky! Where else can one find the gross, blended with good humour and they blend well ? LOL!
