I'm not sure if this is Art Nouveau, Victorian or a transitional Arts & Crafts fabric runner, but it's absolutely beautiful. I found it in a box of old linens and tablecloths I purchased at an estate sale some years back and I recently rediscovered it while going thru some boxes.
It measures approximately 44" long X 12 1/2" in width. You can't tell really in the photos but the threads are all a bit shiny like silk perhaps. I don't know if it is a machine made piece or not but the threads don't seem to be completely uniform. There are 1 or 2 very small spots where the gold thread has worn. The entire pattern of floral designs and the gold background threads seem to be woven or stitched into a dark brown fabric and the back side of the runner is a slightly worn and faded red velvet. Unfortunately 4 pictures isn't really enough, but as you can see I did take a closeup of one of the central floral design with the hopes that someone may be able to tell if it hand made or machine made.
Anyone out there have any idea or perhaps an idea of the style and age of this gorgeous piece? As always, I thank you in advance for your time and interest.
It's really gorgeous!
So beauty!!
