I may have mentioned before that Sanyu Glass is still made in Japan, but is now marketed under the name Narumi Fantasy Glass.
That means that they have been producing amazingly hot worked pieces of glass like this for at least 50 (probably 60) years.
This vase is a common colour group for Sanyu, with blue, yellow and crimson mixed together in the vase to make an absolute rainbow of glass.
I have a number of pieces by Sanyu in these colours, and they are all beautiful.
This is by far the biggest. The Japanese seem to have appreciated hefty glass and this one with it's huge lumps and bumps of clear comes in at an amazing 26cm (10in) and 3.2kg!
Seriously awesome vase, not just in size but beauty too.
Nobbly but nice!
3.2 kilos, getting better, soon have you at 5+ kilos.
It's a bit odd but as I said awesome!
Thanks William - have a nice Sunday!
Japanese glass at it's finest...these are beauties. I haven't seen anything like these here in the states.
Great items....Great finds
stunning!!
Thanks so much Mike, Ken and Rose!
My other Sanyu pieces in these colours were from Australia, but this monster came from Japan. I couldn't resist it, even with the postage cost (as you can imagine for something this heavy!).
I agree with your statement - seriously awesome!!
Thanks Spunkysmum!
Another unusual beauty. Love your profile pic :)
Thanks Fran.
It's by Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara...I love his work.
I have a beautiful vase and matching candy dish. I got them at a thrift store! Mine are rainbow in color.
Lucky you! I have seen the dish but don't have it. Beautiful!
Gorgeous vase...and wonderful photos...:-)
Thank you Inky!
