    5" by 4.5", marked on one face H.V. 1907
On the other face, Henri Varenne (sculptor 1860-1933)

Post it in mystery part as I would like to know more, if there is some medal collectors who heard from it.

The temple on one face is the Fire Temple in Baku
Google for Ateshgah of Baku, very interesting story

Beautiful! I think the most interesting question is why it appears to have been given to Armand Dayot, a left wing art critic and author of the time? Alfred Nobel's prize is given in litterature as well as science, maybe there's a connection?
    4. OlofZ OlofZ, 10 years ago
There is one connection worth looking into, Maurice Maeterlinck was awarded the Nobel Prize in Litterature 1911. He is also a contributing in a few antologies edited by Armand Dayot. Alfred Nobel's private library also contains a book written by Dayot. I think you must write to the Nobel Museum and ask what this can be, I'm sure a researcher there would be thrilled to see it, could be of great historic value!

OlofZ, it is amazing! You went on a part of research I was not thinking!
I thought Armand Dayot was a director in Nobel firm!
I did even not Googled his name... Stupid me!
I will contact the Nobel museum and see what informations they can give.
Of course, will forward the answer on This post.
Milliard pouds of thanks to you!
      Bravo!

I wonder if this has something to do with it:

      http://www.inumis.com/articles_img/large/01/0100/010013/P01_01001309.jpg

It would tie everything together nicely; France, Arts, Transportation (petroleum).

Thank you TubeAmp for your research!
I think only the period, origin and style are linked...
We'll see what will coming from Nobel museum :-)

Thanks for sharing, it was great to see something about Alfred N. brothers. I didn't even know he had brothers as his fame has put them in the shadows... The plaque of Alfred is very similar to that on the Nobel Prize medallion, made from the same photograph from the 1890's. Will be interesting hearing if you get some input from the museum!

      Interesting piece:
Emanuel Nobel had Fabergé make this clock to also mark this occasion.

      Really fantastic informations and links!
Still waiting to hear from Nobel Muséum, perhaps in September...
Maeterlinck got the Nobel prize in 1911, medal is from 1907. Perhaps it was a gift later, but still can't know the relation!
