This vase has a beatifull colour. I had not seen another before or after "in vivo". I love blues and green thus I feel that it was done for me . When searching on internet what it is found a very similar one at http://www.ebay.ca/itm/VICTORIAN-MOTHER-OF-PEARL-BLUE-SATIN-GLASS-9-25-VASE-/141328736434. The pontil of both, the ruffled rim, the colour are similar but not identical. Clearly mine has a bronze mount that is old and the pontil has been polishe till to reach the inner white case glass layer. The history of MOP is so interesting from a technological point of view. In this site http://www.realorrepro.com/article/Mother-of-Pearl there is a full explanation of how the pearl tone is obtain an how often reproductions had been made. In this other http://www.glasscollector.net/Blog/glass-notes/thats-italian/ another allert about this latter point can be find. After reading both I conclude that mine could be British and very old. I would appreciate any commentary about the origin of this vase.
Hi kivatinitz, sorry I can't help with its origins but can Love it! I'd guess it's English and Victorian from its appearance. The base is most unusual and works so well. It's Gorgeous
