Here are three pieces I picked up today. Two nice little bracelets and a beautiful brooch. I'm only sure about two of them the other is questionable. They are all marked but I can only clearly read two of them. So for fun let me know what you think. One may actually have some value. The others are pretty but of nominal value. They do this on the BBC's Antiques Roadshow and call it Good, Better, Best. -Mike-
Thanks Ken...Good choices. The brooch you like is made by a very well known company and clearly marked. It's petals are a blue enamel that looks like sapphire. I like them all of course :).
The bottom bracelet is good, the brooch is better, and the jeweled bracelet is best.
Of course this is based on an assessment of ordinary (yes ordinary!) photos, and not on personal preference. I'll take the brooch anyday!
Some great shopping there Mike.
Thanks Karen :).... Well I guess I'll reveal what I know. You and Ken mentioned the center bracelet. It is the best piece and it has 3 marks on it but the most important one is .925 which means sterling but it has a gold cast. There are two other marks that look like symbols or maybe letters. I can't be sure about what they are or their meaning. Not sure about the stones either. This one merits taking it to the jewlers to be sure. The brooch you like so much is ..... Ta da ! "Avon". The bottom bracelet with the arrow pattern stones by default comes in as the good piece. I think it's better than the brooch though. Very intricate links on the back, nice clasp and it does sparkle. The mark is on the end of the clasp. It's a bit hard to read and worn. I can make out "AN" as the last two letters. The third letter is a "W or M". The first two are really hard to see. Maybe an "I T or L". So my best guess is "Taiwan". Of course I like them all. Thanks for the loves and comments. -Mike-
That centre bracelet looks very well made!
Thanks Karen :)...... It is.... The other mark is on the clasp slide and looks like a "c.z.". it could mean Czechoslovakia. The third one looks like three dots above the .925 (sterling) mark. The bracelet looks gold though. So it might be plated. The stones are all prong set with open backs even the little rhinestones (diamonds ?) ones. Could all be Czech crystal though if it's from there. The last all diamond type bracelet's mark still puzzle me. Looks more like "Taman" than Taiwan but still pretty I think. -Mike-
