From 1953 this radio is AM only. It works but has a fairly loud hum. The cord looks original or perhaps old, the plug may have been replaced long ago. In the last picture I didn't use flash so you can see the light from the tubes.
It is made of plastic and not bakelite. But it is a good plastic. Pre 1970 plastic has a warmer look to it. Some say because it contains lead but others say maybe not.
