I was recently given this vase by a neighbor after helping him clean out his flooded basement (this was one of the few survivors of the water damage). He didn't know anything about it but it looks mid-century to me. It features some unique cube-shaped ornamentation. It's substantially heavy for the size and measures 5" in diameter x 9" tall.
The finish is a nice thick glazing and the material appears almost like stoneware in texture.
I'd like to find out more about it. Can anyone help identify who it was made by, when it was made and from where its origins may be?
There is a marking on the bottom that appears to be a series number that reads "45 / 524". Also has a signature/maker's marking but I'm having trouble identifying it.
Thank you!
does it say 'Jaru' underneath?
I think it says ITALY.
Fabulous item.
Bitossi?
Italy for sure
Alvino Bagni?
Definatly italy , love it
bitossi italy , probably by designer aldo londi in the mid 1960s nice piece.
I was just studying Bitossi pottery yesterday. I have a piece I had boxed in the basement, I was trying to identify; and I agree with frankyone. If it's undamaged, you just might have a VERY NICE pice of Bitossi. Google Bitossi Pottery, images, and hit some of the pictures that take you into art gallery's. Some pieces can be very pricey if you know what I mean. :)
Thanks everyone. It definitely seems to be a Bitossi. I'll keep researching and post any definitive findings. Really appreciate all the insights!
