Bought this recently and I am wondering a little about it. I need to add a picture of the Asian imprint on the bottom to know more and will do that later. Is this a Fu Dog statue? What does the ball represent etc. If what are the values of them based on year?

I AM NOT looking to sale. Just wanting some info.

Did you find the information you was looking for on this lion? If not, I can help you. I have books on markings for just about everything. Some items I haven't located the history on, of course there mine. Lol

I can't help with translation of this one sorry.
The ball traditionally was made from yarn and in some documents is believed to have been designed to absorb milk which came from the lion's paw. The ball is thought by some to represent the world, and the male lion's job is to protect the home from the outside world. The designs on the ball represent the flower of life. The male is essentially yin.
Female shishi have a cub, supposedly suckling milk from it's paw. She offers protection to the inside of the home, or the family. She is yang.
There is lots of info about shishi but lots of unknown's as well.
      this one is a beauty!

Ashton - just seen your foo dog and it has the same markings as mine. Did you find out anything about this in the end?

No I haven't. I'll try submitting it somewhere else. You have pictures of yours?

Hi Ashton - yes the photos are on Collectors Weekly. The marks on your dog seem to be the same as mine....

It sure would - I have a feeling the flower style stamp maybe something and I'll try to find out what the chinese says.
