    1942 Lot 68 shell casing also have from 1943. I'm trying to learn more about what i have acquired any information will help.

      It is called TRENCH ART. Turning war refuse in to decorative and utilitarian items.

      Your particular item looks to have been made as a vase.

      I am a collector and have numerous postings on CW on trench art that cover several eras (Spanish American War- Modern) and many different types.

      Take a look at my items or do a CW search for "Trench art" to see other examples.

      I would only add that the insignia on the side indicates the British Royal Marines

      Thank you for the answers helpful i now have a starting point to research. Is it worth insuring or can you recommend a site i can look?

      Insurance would be your call. It is not worth a great deal-- less than $100.

      If you wanting to see trench art-- do a CW search. It is the top right of every page.

      Also a general search on ANY search engine will lead you to a lot of information and photos of examples.
