Mid Century Modern chrome Heron table centerpiece - what is it and who made it?

Hi,

I just bought this from an estate in the Princeton NJ area.
The owner was an architect and his house was filled with Mid Century Modern and Art Deco pieces............

I bought this, but am not sure what it is for - dip, or fishbowl, or......
Or who made it. No maker's mark. Could it be made by Jere?????

Base is wooden and the rest looks to be chrome plated.
There are Cattails and a Heron, Stork or possibly Egret are the water's edge.

Who can tell me a bit more about this piece?
I'd like to know what it was intended to be used for and who made it?
