I was on my way to Volunteer's this morning taking one of my many routes. Now I see garage sales all the time but I never stop because there is never anywhere to park. I decided to brave the side of the road without putting the car in the ditch next to it. The guy having the sale was moving from his house to an apartment and as we all know sometimes you have to thin out your collection. He had several things he had bought at auctions and was parting with them. He told me he was not very fond of cloisonne so these 8 1/2" bowls had to go. I didn't think his asking price of ten dollars was too much for the pair so here they are. At first I thought they were an identical pair. While the interiors are the same the outside decoration is not. They're in pretty good condition with no dents or damage. Both are stamped "China" on the bottom. I almost didn't see it. One has the turquoise glaze filling some of the the stamp while the other is legible. I think they're rather nice but I'm not sure of their age. Always nice to have a pair too. -Mike-

Even new, I love the blue and white, and the inside decor! For 10 a pair, would have got them too :-)

I just was remembering what you said about the little vase I had Lisa. The gold was really shiny and bright on that, so I figured the same with these. The rims and bases on the bowls are a bit mellower as you say. There's a little bit of blue green oxidation on the rims too. I always think of the 70's and 80's as still being new compared to 1900's. Especially when it comes to Asian pieces, but what do I know..lol. The way that they're marked confused me too. I couldn't find any examples of China stamped into the metal with the turquoise enameled bottoms. That made me think they were much newer as well.

It's getting better by the minute Lisa :) I'm just happy they're not Marshall's or T.J. Maxx. The previous owner did say he bought them at auction. Whether that's true or not has to be taken with a grain of salt. Judging from what he had though I'd say we had similar tastes. Which is anything that catches my eye !
