This was found at an Consignment shop in a Grab Bag for a couple of buck. I got that old gut feeling when i seen it. On the back it is stamped Sterling 925 with the letters MA in the middle that I can make out on the Brooch. The bracelet has what looks to be Sterling stamped with a wing bird with the number 3 in the center. Anyone familiar with these markings that can educate me ????? Thanks for looking. Might just be Costume Jewelry my gut tells me different.
I agree that these are nice. It's a bit hard for me to read the marks on the brooch but I would say these are more than likely silver and mexican taxco silver is often highquality! The eagle stamp tells me this is not a new piece. I'll get back to you soon with some links.
http://WWW.925-1000.com where you can read about mexican marks. There is also a great book, 'little book of mexican silvertrade and hallmarks' that is partly available on line if you Google. There you can search for initials. It's often tricky to find out who made the piece, often you have to settle with the information that they are mexican and be happy to know their age. The eagle mark system was in use until around 1979. The eagle 3 stamp was used for Taxco but also confusingly for some makers. If you're interested you can look at my posts on mexican silver to get some more information, I have had a long answer about mexican silvermarks from a knowlagable CW member in the post with my mexican necklace, maybe it can also help you.
Elisabethan, Thanks for the information and your Collections are Beautiful. I think the stones would be called Abalone from the research I came up with so far. Thanks again.
Thank you very much mikeigotit! Yes I agree about abalone. Good luck!
Just one more thing, I think abalone is a shell not a stone. Sorry if you knew that already, didn't mean to correct you just give you information.
Elizabethan, Nope, I didn't know, lol. Thanks for correcting Me! I am learning about so many different things, I appreciate all the help I receive.
No problem, I just saw that abalone = ear-shell. Have a nice day now :).
