Dug up in the garden about 20 yrs ago by father; no one knew anything about it, no one alive now to ask. Looks like a broach of some kind? Has a place on top that has been broken, could have been a loop for a chain for necklace (?) I think "hand made" because of the simple design, but very strong/heavy setting/design for the stone/glass. May be pewter, but I think maybe silver, as it has not been really cleaned, but you can see some shine on the back & front on some parts of the metal. I think it may be "emerald" instead of glass; otherwise it most likely would have cracked/broken being plowed up with a mechanical tiller (I have some emerald jewelry, and this really looks like emerald to me) The "carving" is "very detailed" (you can see the fingers, hair, etc.) on the front and appears to be some kind of god/goddess? The stone (?) is semi-translucent, as you put up to light, you can see the carving from the back. The back also has scrape marks on it, like the metal was "cut" straight off. I would love to know if someone has seen anything like this before, and/or "how old" they think it could be, and any other comments about the stone, or "what" it is?
Definitely looks handmade! So cool!
Cool! I have no idea what it is. Looks like pewter to me but it's hard to tell from photos. You should have it made into a necklace so you can wear this memorie. It's a very interesting story.
Thanks Jewels & Elisabethan! (Hoping someone can give me an idea of how old, or what time period)
Would anyone have an idea of where I might be able to find out more info on this piece, i.e., age, what the stone is, etc. ? If I could find out what it is, how old, etc., I may can link it to a time period or person in family history, as I have gone back a couple hundred years. I assume I need someone who is expert/knowledgeable on different eras, etc., ? Just by looking at it & some info I have read, it could be from the Georgian era? Thanks for any help/advise!
Have the stone tested... that's what I would do. Looks like emerald.
THANKS everyone!! Good info/advice. I hope some more peeps can comment also!
Would anyone have any idea if the image is suppose to be an image of a god/goddess (can't tell if woman or man image)...or image of a specific person of the time period, or?
