People seem to think that in the days before indoor plumbing one had to go to the outhouse in the middle of the night, during a snowstorm and so on. But thanks to the chamber pot and pieces of furniture that is not so. One could go in the warmth of one's own home. Plus it turns into an attractive end table when not in use.
Not sure how old it is but probably from when indoor plumbing was less common (duh). Anyway according to my old-o-meter it is old.
The holders for the chamber pot are adjustable. In the last photo I put a much smaller pot in and I was able to make it fit well as would a larger pot.
It may be called the mission style commode chair.
Well polished seat I see.
Why 2 pots?
Oh -- One for # 1....and one for # 2......LOL
Still, back in the day (this was technology) but still have to run it outside to empty
This would have been a luxury in the day to have a chair instead of just a pot on floor . Love it and the history as we progressed to what we have now .
These aren't real common, are they? Saw 1 on Pawn Stars & found 1 in that 300+ yr old great house I owned in St. Eustatius (toilet chair wasn't that old). Guess people just didn't find a long time attachment to such things. LOL . Probably the 1st thing thrown out when something better came along. Doubt they would even burn it in their wood stove!
Blunderbuss I don't see a huge amount of them. Probably went out to the trash as soon as the toilet was installed. Either that or made into a flower pot.
Thank you very much racer4four.
Thank you antiquerose. I was using the two pots to show it was adjustable for different sized pots.
