George of the Jungle is an American animated series circa 1967 produced by Jay Ward and Bill Scott, who also created The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show. The character George was inspired by the legend of Tarzan and a cartoon characterization of George Eiferman drawn by a cook on his mine sweeper in the Navy during WW2. George has a pet elephant named 'Shep', who behaves like a lap dog or, as George refers to him, a "great big peanut-lovin' poochie," and who George thinks is a dog!
This wristwatch with 'Shep' on the dial was produced by Jay Ward circa 1972. I believe it is powered by a 17 jewels Hamilton movements and it is manual winding with a screw down back and a sweep second hand. 'Copyright 1972 Jay Ward Prod' is printed underneath 6 O'clock.
Hope you have enjoyed veiwing this post!
Thanks Mani & glad that you liked Shep! :-)
Great watch George! In the Jay Ward cartoons, Shep was light grey in color.
Very few of the watches were actually made where Shep is actually grey.
He was too hard to see against the dial and didn't stand out much so they made it pink!
Thanks Adam (wink)! :-)
Great addition.... you'll have the complete series in no time
Thanks Kerry! Will probably have to sell the entire collection just to buy the Ape! lol
