I'll use the who, what, where.......
The who: My grandparents purchased an estate in northern California around 1940. It had belonged to a doctor and his wife. The home was lovely and had quite a few items that were considered old at that time.
The what: This little gem of a teapot. Measures aprox 6-1/2" from the bottom of the trivet to the top of the handles. The seams are all soldiered. The center photo shows the spout is also in two pieces.
The where: Is a good question..... There are written characters on the teapot lid. It is Asian for certain, but I am not sure of the specific origin. I am hoping the dragon is good luck!
Great piece I can see why your grandparents bought it
Beautiful. Does it have a maker's mark?
Thank you cindirella, There is only the written characters on the lid of the teapot. No other symbols or hallmarks. I sure would like to know what it said!
Thank you for the kind words Zowie!
petey, SEAN68, and pops52, Thank you for the "loves!"
As you get to know me a bit better you will find unless I like something I keep it to myself as we all have different taste. Have a great day
Thank you geo26e!
I can't make out what the spout is. Is there a way to date it?
I will have to take a closer look at the spout when I get home.
I was hoping someone here on CW could help me date it! All I know for certain is that it is pre-WWII. I am not even sure of the country of origin.
Hi Jim,
I just got home, and my benevolent dragon has three claws on each foot! I am in awe of your research skills. I have not tried to find a translation of the script, as I did not know the country of origin.... or where to start for that matter!
Thank you, Rebecca
I have a customer from my work that is going to try to help me get a translation. He stopped in yesterday to show his vacation photos of Japan. He is going to e-mail my pics to his friend in Japan and ask if she will offer a translation!
