    (4 items)

No identifying marks. Red and gold brocade upholstery, 4 springs, burlap, ropes, wood shavings and cottony batting - all very old looking. A small piece of paper was tucked in the seat cushioned area with pen and ink writing of woman's name and pencil drawing of houses. The upholstery is tacked with rusty, unfinished tack-like nails - small with round heads and very pointy ends (spindly 'v' shape), then covered with strip of ribbon like fabric. Two screws with round slotted head are rusty. The decorative plait is veneered with three layers of wood.

In response to your request (Curule, Savonarola, Dante?) I have recently acquired a chair which is almost identical to yours, complete with the same four springs and curved multi-layered wood veneer back. Mine has five spindle on the sides connecting the arm rails to the seat. Other than that I would hazard a guess that it must be from the same manufacturer. It is definitely very old and many attempts appear to have been made at repairing the upholstered seat. Fortunately these were done without altering the rest of the chair. I also would like to know its' background and value.

How interesting. I have since refinished (I know - a no no) the chair and reupholstered the seat. The reupholstering was quite an adventure, but fun. It's just lovely. If you find any info - please pass it along! Thanks so much for reaching out. Have a nice holiday!
