An unelectrified antique porcelain base with Chinese-like raised floral decoration. Has a hand-painted milk glass shade but not sure it's an authentic match. Haven't found any photos like it anywhere, so am curious about its origins.

Any markings on the thumbwheel? I assume that the oil font can be removed from the metal-lined porcelain base. These late 1880's-1890's Vase-like fonts usually had matching Milk glass Shades but this decor is quite delicate. More photos would be helpful especially with the font taken out of the holder. Is that an all original gallery burner? RER(BOB)

You know the right questions to ask, it seems. The markings on the two wheels say "A A VANTINE & CO 877 BROADWAY NY. The oil font is removable and under it is a second brass-like liner. I can post a photo of the hand-painted shade I got it with if you wish. Someone told me it was a mismatch, but maybe that's not the case after all...

Wow, that catalog makes me wish for a time machine so I could visit the store! I will post photos of the oil font and the milk glass shade the lamp had when it was given to me. I was told it was a mis-match with the lamp, so I will be interested in what the collectors think.

I don't think the shade would have been made of decorated pottery like the font-holder so a Milk glass one with similar colors/flower designs sounds correct. You can tell that it is a good quality lamp with yes, Oriental influences. It may also have been made of Frosted Glass with a similar Acid-etched design. The shade holder is quite big so I feel that a quite impressive and large shade adorned this beautiful Vase/Banquet lamp. RER
