Volunteer's of America came through with some really beautiful jewelry today. They've put out so many nice pieces it was hard to choose. The tiny little 10K gold and I'm hoping, emerald ring was my primary target. It's light as a feather and barely fits past the nail of my little finger. Must be a size 4 if not smaller. It's band has an unusual shape and is not perfectly round. It's marked 10K with a miniscule triangle after that. The stone is held in place by four prongs and is open in the back. It's a bit dirty and the stone seems to have the inclusions of a natural emerald. The top surface shows pits and roughness under magnification. My research found that they need to be treated with cedar oil to hide the inclusions and bring out their color and clarity. Not a 100 % sure about the stone, but I'm hoping. I'll take it to the jeweler's tomorrow. I think it fairly old too. The necklaces are gorgeous and sparkly with crystals. The amber one with the three pendants is incredible it's marked "CKV" (Czechoslovakia?) on six of the links. No luck on identifying the mark. The large green tear drop necklace has it's mark on an oval tag by the clasp... P. (a crown mark) F. J. , no luck here either. They both look like antique brass. Not sure about their age but they sure are pretty ! -Mike-
Thanks eye :) ........ so nice to hear from you again ! It sure has been a while. I've kind of branched off a bit to this jewelry thing. Caught the bug from fellow CW member "nutsabatas6". Takes up a lot less space than my other pieces that's for sure. Hopefully this little ring is what I think it is.
Thanks Ken :) It's been a few days I know, just haven't been finding much of anything. You've got to go to Volunteer's sometime. Five cases of nothing but jewelry ! Puts GW and Salvation to shame.
Nice Mike!
Love a bit of green! Hope it's an emerald, but whatever, it's a nice ring.
Sparkly necklaces are lovely too!
very beautiful!!!!!
Thanks Karen and Sean :)
Your very welcome mike!!! :)
Wow Mike great finds! I need to stare at cases more. I run by and don't really stop unless something catches my eye. I've been finding stuff but just taking a break from posting. Just lazy.
Thanks Amber :) I know the feeling.... plus my old war horse of a computer finally gave up. Picked up another on the cheap from you know where...lol. Needed to dump XP anyway so I went for Vista on a 6 year old model. Runs quite well for my posting and everyday use. Spares my newer laptop from the daily grind. Good thing it happened during a dry spell, but I'm back in business.
Mike, great find!! I think the centre stones a green tourmaline. Love it.

Thanks Lee :)
Well I took the ring to the jeweler's and was told that while the band is as marked 10K, the stone is synthetic. I'm not really satisfied with their vague assessment. I was also told the owner was out by the clerk and whoever looked at it in the back was not the person I usually show my pieces too. So if it's not glass (fake) but synthetic...synthetic what ?? Emeralds were first created in the 1930's as it was a very tricky process to combine the elements, while rubies were being made in the 1900's. Maybe it's tourmaline as moonstonelover21 suggested . I'd really like to know exactly what the "synthetic" is.
I don't know about an infant's ring Eye. It does fit on my mom's little finger, but she's only around a hundred pounds. I would expect glass to be more crystal clear and perfect but who knows. Hope it's at least older. Don't know why, but despite the less than expected news I still like it.
I'm always into the eye appeal of pieces not so much the value. This little ring was fifty bucks so I think I paid about retail price for it or slightly under. If it's older maybe it has antique value as well. Don't think I got burned to badly. Still learning and taking chances.
Thanks Eye :)
Sounds awesome. My friend and I are going to our flea market this morning provided he gets up...lol. Wake up call at 8:30 if he doesn't !
