This heavily glazed art pottery vase is 9" high by 11" wide.
there is an impressed signature which I am at a loss to decipher.
if anyone has a clue or recognizes this mark, please let me know.
Obtained from an estate of a woman who collected pottery for ikebana flower arranging, lived in Japan during the 1950's & worked with Epcot in planning, design & judging their annual flower shows.
that is all the clues i have! great day,
    barbara

Does it say 'Merida'? that's a town in the Yucatan, Mexico.

Carlos Merida?!! if it is, and it kind of looks like his signature... then you have an amazing treasure here. he was a friend of my family's and we stayed w/ his family in guatemala once and once in mexico too.

hello all-check & his signature is nothing like this one-the impressed mark on my vase seems to start with a W but maybe an M then i see an 8-
oh my-this is one wild goose chase!

hello-cannot believe that i listed this over 2 years ago-still wondering about the signature. it is a wonderful piece of heavy glazed pottery. pl let me kno if u kno!
    11. ho2cultcha ho2cultcha, 8 years ago
can you get a better pic of the signature - straight on? maybe w/ some cinnamon or corn starch stuffed in there?
    12. Girlietrader Girlietrader, 8 years ago
      hello ho2cultcha
well, i tried ground nutmeg and baking powder-seems that the mystery has deepened. as u can see fr orig pict, the signature stamp is incised so i am not sure if the different methods have helped w/identity or not. Once again, any info will be greatly appreciated. I'm usually good at signatures, this one has been a puzzle. thx, barbara
