A couple of closer pics of the mysterious bucket. It's built from slats, and was turned with a lathe to decorate and smooth the outside. The bottom is also solid. I'm thinking the longer tabs were a feature for the lid to seat against. Can anyone confirm or correct?
I don't think it was made for holding anything except some dried flowers. The piece it was modeled after would have had wood or steel bands holding it together. Here, the bands are just a nod from the woodworker and the added notched edge elude to the decorative nature of this piece.

I still think butter churn, especially with that hole in the bottom. Does the inside show signs of wear? you can add two more pics...
@Hunter it would most likely fall apart or just leak as the wood swells and break the glue.

I would expect this to be a decoration piece. Anyone who has churned butter would probably agree. When the mix hardens it gets harder to pump and pressure builds up. This should have metal banding to keep it together if it was from a churn.
That's what I have been saying every time this item is posted, but it get's deleted. I guess I'm saying what the owner doesn't want to believe.

Thanks for the inputs everyone. A decorative bucket works good too. I like it just fine, whatever it was built to do.
Sometimes truth hurts. I wish I was as young as this is.
