    This came from my father's maternal grandmother. I do not know how it came to her.

    I thought it was cloisonne.

    Stamped Made in Japan. I would like to know the meaning of the stamp above.

    I do not know the meaning of the handwriting in orange.

      poss mid to late 20c .. I would say 50s- 70s maybe kutani..
      have a look on gothenbergs 20c japanese marks ;-))

      I found a portion of the stamp on gbouvier.com It was the wrapped triangle portion at the bottom. The example was part of an unidentified stamp.

      I am not certain of the upper portion is multiple characters or one character in blurred ink.

      I am not certain, but I think the characters read: Made (or Maker) in Japan.

      Extra kudos to you that have studied and have an understanding of these marks!

      Hi there, the characters read from top to bottom and are in the kanji (Chinese) characters. I read Chinese not Japanese so even though the characters are the same, they may not be pronounced the same way. But I can tell you it's probably the name of a mountain (which is probably the name of the pottery). The character below is mountain, the one on top is the name of the mountain. In Chinese, you would pronounce it as "jia shan".

      Hi bobogal, Thank you for sharing your knowledge! Now that you've said it, I can surely see it as a mountain.

      If only I had my great-grandfather's green thumb. This vase used to be filled with white flowers.
