Truly this vase is a bit over the top, but Japanese glass in the 60s got pretty garish at times. But it's mine, I appreciate the work in it, it's Japanese, and in the right place it looks quite beautiful!
Labeled Art Glass, this vase was actually made by Iwatsu Glass, who also made Hineri.
By the little I have been able to research (thanks Google Translate!) it seems Iwatsu was a big company, mainly focused on art glass, and with a number of prominent designers who had worked under Iwata and Fujita.
Iwatsu loved the three or four lobed "pulled" vase like this, and most of their Hineri glass is exactly that.
This is quite different in that they got really busy with colour!
Orange and brown mixed with a fantastic opalescent white, all clear cased. The casing has also been worked into points around the body, so it is really a complicated piece!
It's pretty big. Height 30cm (12in) weight 2.2kg
Love the shape and colors !! a beauty to me :-)
