Bought this two weeks ago at a yard sale. The man who sold it to me said he thought it was brass because a magnet won't stick to it. Inside the bowl is a very worn bust with the name Napoleon on the left side and the word Empereur. on the right side. The word Tiolier is printed on the bottom under the bust, coin size just over an inch across. On the back bottom exterior, from left to right arching the top are the words Empire Francais. 1811 is printed on the bottom, to the right of that is the letter A. 2 Francs in the middle inside a wreath. Very worn. The tastevin itself is about 2 and 3/4 inches across. Gold washed interior, silver exterior. Looks like it was cleaned although there are still dark patches throughout. The handle is circular, the left side of the handle is wavy, the right side of the handle forms a diamond shaped head with a lined pattern. There is an unreadable indented hallmark a quarter inch past the handle. I heard that the handle can help identify the area that it came from (region). Different regions made different handles. There is a ribbon tied to the handle, helps keep your wine cup handy. Any information on this item would be appreciated. I am assuming it is some type of reproduction if it is brass, would love to find out. Thanks.
