Hi I would like to know what these stoneware jars were used for they are about 8 inch high with metal closer on the top and are very thick and heavy, I know the company made mixing machines. For industrial use, but cant figure out what the containers would be used for and cant find anyfor sale any where, on the Internet,
Could be resin containers or dried paint containers , ive just read the history of the factory and would'v thought they were made for their own use !!
Cool containers though :-)
I have only just found this post! Steele and Cowlishaw manufactured Drum Type Ball Mills. The container is a small drum. Manufacturers used ball mills for particles size reduction. A ball charge was added to the drum for wet or dry grinding. This technique was employed in the ceramic, paint, cosmetics, food, rubber, plastics and dental industries Channell (1951) The Industrial Chemist, The Operation of Ball Mills p. 6 show a very similar drum by Steele and Cowlishaw Ltd.
