I have handled and sold many Religious artifacts over the years including small bronzes but when I saw this bronze plaque in an Antique Store that was liquidating all their items and closing their doors, I just couldn't put her down. It was on a dirty shelf that hadn't been cleaned for years and she was extremely dirty. The old antique dealer had no idea where he had gotten her or when. When I got home that night, I took the plaque and placed it in a tub of warm soapy water to loosen the dirt. That same night, I washed her really well in the laundry tub using a soft toothbrush to clean her features, especially her eyes. As I was drying her with a clean cloth in my hands, I felt a chill running down my spine and down my arms. This has never happened to me before. It was as if she was thanking me for cleaning her and bringing her home. I'm not overly religious or superstitious but this feeling of "rapture" was a first for me.
How I wish she could talk and tell me where she came from and who owned her before. I know why she is crying and I'd love to be able to wipe away her tears.
The plaque is completely unmarked, weighs over 4 lbs., measures 9 1/4" tall by 8 3/4" wide and 1 1/2" thick and has two drilled holes at the back to affix her to a wall. Have you seen a similar plaque used elsewhere; if so, I'd love to hear your story....BOB
shses very beautiful Bob!! :)
shes. sorry typo!!
Nice plaque, beautiful Mary'face, and beautiful story !
I do think some objects appeal us....
I am not religious either but I have a harder time selling any religious item, I usually keep them a lot longer than I would any other and I will not sell the last religious item I always keep one at least for luck. I usually have many.
Now I have the chills too. I am very "sensitive"--Yes!! You have something very special--Thank God you found her!! I love her face!!It is full of "Holy Ligh"t. I am not Catholic but I was raised by my grandmother--who was. My goodness! I wonder who the artist is?? It is so touching!!
Thank you lee120275 and PostCardCollector for the love of her. Bob
