    Hi,

    I have a possibly XIXth century bayonet (could be British or Canadian) left by my father. No history related to it.
    The blade measures 17 3/16'' and total length with socket: 20 11/16''.
    I can read the following engravings on the top blade going down to the elbow:

    O
    35
    P
    15
    135?
    and in small characters what could possibly be the year in Roman numbers.
    I can see what looks like LLVE

      That is a very common style for muzzle loaders & early breech loaders. If you give the inside measurements of the socket, you may find some help here but I'm to busy right now. Bon chance!

      It looks like the Pattern 1853 Enfield bayonet, and the measurements you give are close. If so, the socket inside diameter would be about 23/32 of an inch.

      I'm stumped on the markings. Are you sure of them?

      Here's a shot of my 1853 Enfield bayonet for comparison:
