Here's a cool bowl i found a few days ago. It's beautifully and reminds me of tiles, so i think it is what they call 'faience', but am not positive. i can't find any marks on it, but would love to learn more about it, if possible. The footing is glazed w/ a glossy, light pink. the outside of the bowl is semi-gloss green, and the inside is a crackle-glaze, matte-finish. there are some hard water stains i haven't gotten off it yet, and there is a tiny chip to the rim, unfortunately.
after reading alot about bonsai pots, i think that this might also be a chinese bowl. the footing is definitely a stylized cloud footing.
Love this! That green on the clouds is just great.
It makes me think sainte Radegonde pottery!
thank you racer4four and kyratango! it does remind me a lot of the Sainte Radegonde pottery. the bowl is more complex than it appears. there are flattened areas above each face of the footing which make the footing much more visible. it was done so perfectly that the bowl still appears to be perfectly rounded. i think it might be french or european. definitely japoniste deco!
early barbara willis??
after living w/ this for a few days, i'm convinced it's a really good piece, but i sure hope i can find out who made it.
