Ranger Comet ABC Bowling Pin

This is a really nice specimen of an early plastic coated tenpin bowling pin made by the Ranger Bowling Company, Aspers, PA. Plastic coatings were typically nylon in this era. In more contemporary pins, the coating is Surlyn, a very tough ionomeric plastic. Each plastic compound had its advantages and disadvantages. Being a former plastics engineer, I tend to collect plastic-coated pins although I do have a few wooden pins. All sanctioned pins must display a permit number (this one is No. 76 and presently we're well up into the three hundreds) as well as state that it is of "control weight" in addition to displaying sanctioning body emblems.
