Here is an old pin made by the Vulcan Corporation. It is the Vulcan White Diamond. ABC approved, it does not have a plastic coating. Rather, the finish is a semi-gloss clear coat that has aged well. This reveals the attractive wood grain underneath and also the form of construction. Old pins of this era were turned from a block all in one piece. This is in contrast to the laminated and glued construction of modern plastic-coated pins. Also of note is the fact that the two neck band rings are of different colors, red on the top and black on the bottom. Two different colored rings is relatively uncommon. Only other Vulcan pins (the Nyl-Tuf Supreme) and the Japanese Aichi Tokei Denki Bravo exhibit this design detail. This is probably a later all wood pin as it sports a plastic reinforcement ring at the base. Older all wood pins either have no ring at all or have a felt insert. This pin has a twin that has a crackled white paint finish instead of clearcoat.
