Found at antique store, owner didn't know anything about it. I liked it and brought it home. Can't find any info. so far that has this shape of a container or age. I believe it may be from Spain, Italy, or ??.
I'm hoping someone may know something about it and enlighten me.
Measures: 8 1/2" tall
5 1/4" diameter of base
Little bowl on top is, 2 1/4" side to side,
from handle to end of spout, 3 1/2"
The little bowl on top contains 1 Tablespoon of liquid.
The glaze has several bumps covering the piece, giving it a rough look. The painted designed lines have a primitive style (to me), however, the blue bird, on the lower side, looks more sophisticated. There isn't any maker marks on the bottom. There are the letters on the neck. Does that identify the potter?
I hope I have provided enough info. so someone can help id this piece - where it was made, age, and function.
I like it for its unrefined look, the wonderful combination of colors, and designs, plus the shape. The birds and the rabbit, that isn't shown, are wonderfully painted. If any one out there that has some knowledge, I will be pleased.
Thank you!!!
reminds me of gitano style spanish flamingo ole, also know a spanish band called triana .good luck!
i love it! looks italian to me - maybe deco? could be a wedding present. the grotesque figures in the bottom section of the body appear to be sort of Deruta. i just learned about Deruta thanks to Vetraio.
beautiful!!
