It's about 18" in length and all metal. Very strong construction with the letter B stamped on the handle area.

Nail puller
nail extractor you use the handle part to hammer down the jaws below nail heads buried in timber then lean back on the foot which grips the nail under the head and pulls out the nail would not recommend using it on any delicate timber
Sure it is Ripley! Equine dentist sounds feasible.....although I might go with the nail puller!
Thank you everyone for the answers but the small part is a handle or lever for closing the jaws. Its too thick to fit under a nail.
