I went to an estate sale today just to check it out and really liked these two chairs (Or their future potential with work). The wooden chair seems to be maybe oak with burled walnut inlay and seems to be peg construction. The upholstered chair is stuffed with mohair or something so I suspect its pretty old. My plan is to get it reupholstered as I like the carving on the frame. I need chairs for a sitting room and thought these would make nice additions once redone. Any idea of the history or style? I wasn't able to get any info on them at all. I picked them up for $25 a piece. Not sure if that is a deal or not but I really thought they were cool, especially the wooden one.

The price is excellent. I wonder if you could provide pictures of what you call peg construction?

I looked up Eastlake style and it definitely seems to fit that category. Is there a way to tell if this is authentic to the time period (Whatever that is) or a reproduction? I want to clean it up and possibly refinish it but if it's really old, it may be better to leave as is except for possibly getting it recaned. Thanks for the input
