I wish I knew how old this is. I can't find a date on it. I definitely know it's from Germany (my mother was born there, plus the instructions are in German). It's a two-deck Romme card set, in a leather case with gold accents around the edges. The instruction cover reads: "Romme, Das moderne Gesellschaftsspiel; in Neubearbeitung; von Otto Wilh. Dickel; 470 bis 529 Tausend).

Thanks, Riply206. I just uploaded a pix with the jokers.

Thank you very much, Riply206. I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge. I've changed my photos to include some of the cards and the features you mentioned. The seven of hearts of each deck had a unique mark on them. Also, the ace of hearts had a mark on them, although not very sharp; plus those aces did have suit identifiers in the corners, not only in the middle. The king of diamonds does have a laurel wreath under his crown. The King of Spades is holding something, but it's unknown to me (maybe that is the top of a stringless harp). And I could not find the maker's mark on the Jack of Clubs but, as I mentioned above, the seven of hearts and ace of hearts had unique marks that no other cards contained.

So far, I can't find the dragon and BD. I might learn more by having someone who speaks German read the instructions/small pamphlet that is part of the set. But I don't see BD's name in that pamphlet. I also find it unusual that the cards are German, yet the joker cards have the English words "The Jolly Joker" on them.

I apologize for not following up to thank you, Riply206, for your last insight. My father has since told me that the cards belonged to my grandfather, who died in 1917. Of course, like some memories of older adults, he might be mistaken.
