Here's an old ring that at one time was enameled, looks like there was Red, Green, Yellow & White, now almost completely gone. I have no idea what type of metal this is.

At one time on the butt of the rifle, there were initials or words also worn away. I thought this was from the Vietnam era but found out the prop & wings came about in the 40's during WWII.

What throws me more is the fleur de lis symbol on both sides of the ring??? Could this be trench art that someone painted later???

Has anyone seen one of these rings before? Your knowledge would be appreciated, I'm passing this on to a dear friends nephew and would love to give him more info about it.

    Thank you :)

Well then Riply, first off, allow me to thank you for your service, with all sincerity!!! I agree with you on the aviator hat, that's what I thought anyway but as I was listing and another "senior moment" got the better of me, lol what can I say?!?

As for the crossed oars, I just took the ring outside in the daylight with my jewelers loupe and they are definitely rifles, see the "sites" at the end of the barrels?

You are very close with the lettering. (I didn't think anyone would be able to see that so I skipped over it. You must have a great monitor screen) Ty, ty..,
Let me add what I think I see there: Possibly an ESC_ and ORDN

Now the "boarder" surrounding the skull and props/wings is that of the wheat penny...(another senior moment-UGH!) if that may give any more clues. Oh, and on the prop, the one facing south, there is a point to it. So if it's WWII, it could be an older relatives, that I know you can't answer for me!!! :)

I want you to know how important this is to me...The friend I'm speaking about served as an Army Medic in Vietnam in the early 70's, he actually got into some trouble for "over-medicating" front linemen at times. In 2001, he was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma-#1 on the VA's list of Agent Orange Killers. I took care of him for almost 7 years. He was my best friend and I miss him so much. His nephew got in a bit of trouble and is now home and I have held many things to pass down to him. It's that time and this is one of the possessions he will receive.

I just can't thank you enough for your input! Sooo appreciated!
      Sincerely,
      Sue

YES! Perfect Riply, thank you so much...I also have my friends brothers service medal from 1968, so this ring could have belonged to the nephews other uncle as well. It's all good, now I have a bit more history to add to the belongings he will receive! I really appreciate all your effort with this! You're the best! :)

To me the most telling part is the "prop and wing" symbol-- used for aviation and not something a grunt would want on a souvenir ring.

I'd look at WW2 Army Air Corps units. The skull was popular symbol in aviation related units.

Also the lettering COULD be a well worn "SQUA/ DRON". I cannot see them well enough.

96B and then went on to be a crime scene analyst? Nice. I was in a related military field, and frequently had 96Bs working for me. True that this is not the forum for that discussion, but the skill sets I picked up have certainly helped me in life.
