Hey All...
This may be a helmet mask from the Mekonde tribe in Mozambique/Tanzania area of Africa. But I'm not sure about that at all. Does anybody know anything more about my guy or how old it may be? I stumbled upon this at an auction recently that was liquidating an old antique shop in Texas. I know he's ugly but I just love it... I think they were sure happy to see it go too! ;) Thanks for any insight you can give me on my find.
You made a good buy. You don't know what you have and expect us to know. What is it made of? What are the dimensions? Is it marked?
It's a carved soft wood that’s blackened and shows scarification marks and what looks like a lip plug as well. I have no idea what type of wood, but it's not a heavy dense type. Thanks!
Demensions
10.5 inches tall from base to top of head
8 inches across from ear to ear.
12 inches wide from lips to back of head
I believe you have a tourist item.
Yeah, probably worthless, but it was fun trying to figure it out. Thanks!
Are you sure it's wood? ...... is it possibly a carved nut like the coco de mer = sea coconut weighing up to 65lbs. They often look like fine ass.......thats right fine womens asses washed up on beaches around the seychells and Maldives.
The nut can often have the front and back of a womans anatomy.
Got me thinking if I could teach one to wash dishes I would ask the mrs to leave.
It does look fairly new-ish.
It doesn't look at all like what you describe...that's a new on me! ;) I've attached pictures of the top and inside of the helmet. See what you think. I'm leaning towards wood rather than the voluptuous coco nut for now. Thanks!
this is great, but he kind of reminds me of Homer Simpson, no?
Exactly! I was thinking the exact same thing! HaHa
LOL....Homer....lol
A scary Homer. I know nothing about your item, but Thanks for the Post!
