We had a successful trip to our local bi-monthly antiques show, and this was the first find of the day. By way of translation, Pensée (Pansy) is a shade of violet used by Loetz, verlaufend (spreading) Texas (which is the densely threaded type of glass used in the vessel body) mit Silber (with silver - refers to the iridescent applications).

I was unable to locate the exact production number of this shape, but the Loetz Series II book indicates that a series of shapes in Empire with this ring type decoration in this color combination were done for the Vienna Arts and Crafts Association in 1908. They were also made for Ludwig Fränkel in Berlin.

This piece is fairly large - 14.5 cm (just under 6 inches) high, and about 8 inches wide. It has a nice fire polished rim, and the pontil scar is finely ground and polished.

Beautiful! I also find that the pansy Empire examples have much thinner threads than the other colors of Texas Empire.
