I love this piece and as much as I have researched I have not been able to find anything close to this. I obtained it at a yard sale where an older gentleman told me he had purchased it in an antique shop in Japan after serving there in WWII and brought it back with him. It is a heavy brown clay/pottery with cobalt blue -- measures 8" high with the domed top. What is so unusual to me is the metal work on the jar. the roped metal around the top and the panels and details of the metal around the jar.. I think I found (been a while since researching this piece.. ) that the large panel shapes may have a symbolic meaning.. but never found anything similar on a pottery jar. I can find no marks or signing and not even sure what type of metal it is. Would love to identify when and where this type of item was made..
Im not saying its not oriental but ive seen similar pots made in morocco, especially with the metalwork !! Try a look in that direction,.. :-))
appreciate it, surdub66.. That is why I am here.. I will look !! Thanks~
surfdub66.. I am so happy for your input.. First time I have even seen the moroccan pottery with metal.. Saw equal shape of my piece and looks like a lot of cobalt blue .. and saw cutout metal shapes similar.. :) I am thinking this is solved as to where it is from.. I will continue to research.. You are awesome.. :) Thank You..
