Now for a second Welz Pink and Purple vase, with three dimples this time. I bought this second one on-line and the photo was so dark I could barely make out what it is. When I opened the box I thought someone had painted a craquelure glaze on top of the glass. Not so.

Taking the rosebowl to a window and tilting it shows a very faint hint of gold on its surface. The vase however has a very strong golden sheen as you can see around the dimples where the light is catching it. Just an 'on the day difference' at the factory I suppose, but a big one (not really shown by my photographs.)

On the other hand can such a gold sheen simply be washed off by repeated washing? It's not 'rainbow' coloured which is how I think of iridescence. Nothing like posting your glass to discover what you don't know!!

    Height 18cm.

Isn't it annoying when you can't capture the full iridescence...:-/

Thanks, inky, you are so, so right. Particularly as I was commenting on a marked difference between two vases that supposedly have the same decor. Tant pis! Peggy

Lovely duo sklo. No need to worry about Welz, it doesn't carry any diseases as far as I know. Except for the occasional addiction :D

      Thank you, SEAN, generous again.

Without going into great detail, the link to Welz production is quite robust. The research attributing the decor and shape to Welz included an example of this decor, in this shape, with an FWK label on it. The FWK label is a Welz label recognized as such in the Glasmarken Lexicon, the most respected and comprehensive guide to glass marks and labels that has ever been published.

Unfortunately the labeled example was destroyed by a cat within hours of being un-boxed at my home. The decor is not very common, and is one of my favorite Welz decors.

      Great duo as Yesterdayslgass said....

Would it be OK with you if I copied your pics for use on my website?

Hey yesterdaysglass, I'd be more of an addict myself IF I could find any more!

Thank you for the information, welzebub. So good that you and yesterdaysglass are of one mind :D.
I'd be very happy for you to copy these pics or any others of mine as I consult your site quite often and it's like a thank you. Couldn't vouch for the quality though.

Lovely eye candy ... beautiful colours remind me of a dress my mum had in the early 60's or was that late 50's...

Thanks Ozmarty, must have been some dress if you still remember it. Funny what can trigger memories.

Do you know what, Peggy? I just posted something very similar. Now I am beginning to think this isn't spooky but we are both interested in the same things and our posts probably represent a good idea of what is "out there" in terms of Czech Art Deco glass in the UK.

There are real differences in the US posts and US ebay links - so likely some real difference in export?
