ENGLISH Antique retractable tape measure with a brown leather case + brass winder produced by TREBLE , am wondering how old this tape is.the leather is scuffed and has minor scratches-Any Info is welcome.thanks
thank you Riply206!!
I think the tape measure has considerable age, as the Rabone and Chesterman models I was trained with in the 1950's for construction work looked very similar but were better divided between the inch marks. The tapes were not new at that time and it was my job as a trainee to pull out and clean the whole length and dry it after each site outing. The later tapes were fibreglass cloth or steel for serious setting out of larger projects or land surveys when specific temperatures and weights of pull were specific to the accuracy.
Hi again,
I remember that the later tape measures had a pin on the reverse side of the case to make the winding handle pop out from it's folded position to allow its use.
thanks for the Info markhus!!
