    It kind of looks like there is a signature in the middle of this base. or am i seeing things? in the second image, you can see the facets i mentioned in a previous post.

      it's so true, idcloisonne! i think the latter is most true of this one - too worn to read. my only hope for it is that someone recognizes it as the work of so and so... c'est la vie...

      i posted it on a specialty page in modern italian pottery, and there seemed to be some consensus that it is french, or possibly asian. i think 'french'...

      that is a 'V' in the center! i think that this is an experimental piece by Leon Volkmar of Durant pottery. he did a lot of experimental work around 1915 using crackle glazes, Chinese style, footed vases and bowls. i think that this is by him.
