Iwata Hisatoshi (1925-1994), generally known as Iwata Kuri, was the son of Iwata Toshi, and worked with his father in the Iwata glass studio.
However he developed a quite distinctive style of his own, although still with a very Japanese creativity evident.

Iwata Kuri is revered in the Japanese glass world not just because of the breadth of his work and the impact he made artistically, but also because of his support and development of art glass exhibitions and education. Many of Japan's late 20th century and contemporary artists trained with him at Iwata.

This vase is from his Midori series. It is clearly in the shape of bamboo and has that very Japanese gold inclusion, but it is the glass colour that is the best for me.

On a greenish ground he has added a variety of greens and blues that has resulted in a subtly coloured and textured finish.

The Midori series included vases in a number of shapes and sizes.

    This vase measure 24cm (9.5in)
